2005 Chevy Trailblazer frnt wheels locked while driving

My wife driving home entering the neighbor hood at about 25 mph had the front wheels just lock up. The car couldnt be driven forward. When I took it out of 4wd it would drive and in 4wd I could back it up. Any Idea. Thanks Jim

Was she driving in snow? Also, have you checked the brakes? Finally, and my first guess, have you checked the CV joints? Was there any clicking coming from the front end? Now when you place it in 4wd, does it do the same thing or can you drive it straight?
