2003 Chevy Trailblazer rear latch

2003 Chevy Trailblazer 80000 miles

The rear latch won't close on the back door. it bounces off, so I think the part on the door is closed. How do i fix it. We are traveling and lack tools. May have to buy some in the morning

try holding the rear hatche's handle in open position, then use a flat blade object (screwdriver etc...) to flip the latch in the jamb back open.
