i was driving on a grooved surface on a highway. 75 mph and the front left tire started wobbling / shaking badly. had to slow to 50mph to get it to stop. when driving on flat surface at 80mph there is no shaking or wobbling at all.

You can check your front end parts including the control arm bushings, also tires for shifted belts, but if OK on even pavement, you probably are OK.
