When I start the car and go to drive I get up to about 20 and start hearing a rattling or grinding sound from the rear it sounds like. When I get to 20mph the rpm just goes up and will not go any faster. I can not reverse either.

Sounds like the trans or transfer case may be bad.The rear end usually wont limit speed like that, they make noise that gets worse.Could be the sound is transmitting down the driveshaft. Since it wont go over 20, it sounds like 2nd gear is broken so it goes to "neutral" instead of 2nd gear
