i have a 1999 tahoe v-8 with 133,000 miles it is making some humming noise as i drive and i was told that it had nothing to do with the rear diferential, my question is , could it possibly be my rear bearings that need to be changed?
thanks.

more than likely the carrier bearings. also i would look into the rear tires first, then the axle bearing to rule them out.

pinion bearing. have your mechanic pick the truck up start the engine and put it in drive. with the rear wheels spinning if you hear the noise it will more then likely be the pinion bearing. carrier bearings howl when you take your foot off the gas and more or less put a load on them. this is not something you should do in your driveway
