Whenever I start the truck up, the light for Auto 4wd is on solid. When I try to shift to 2wd or 4-hi, the light on those switches blinks for about 5 seconds and goes out. The auto 4wd light remains on solid afterward. The tahoe is in 2wd at all times. I've replaced the actuator (the plunger was extended when I removed it) but the problem persists. Would like some direction before I take it to the shop.

my guess is its the transfer case shift motor. this is the electric motor on the side of the transfer case. try tapping it lightly with a hammer while someone shifts it from inside with the key on and engine off, this usually will shock the motor enough to get it to work one last time. it is very common
