I have a 2004 tahoe and I will have the air conditioning on and for no reason it will start blowing hot air then I can get back in it later and it will be blowing cold air again and might work fine for a few days then again driving down the road starts blowing hot air, what is causing this?

It would have to be examined during the failure to determine first, if the compressor is running at the time and if now, why.
