2003 Chevy Tahoe 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi I have a spare tire that will not come down, i tried jacking the middle of the tire up like the book said but the release will not release, I'm wondering if the tire is up side down,if so how do i release the latch. the cable is free but the safety catch won't release. . thank you

the tire fits upside down because it fits up there tighter so you can't see it.as far as getting the tire down, you will have to cut the cable that holds it.(I've done plenty of these)and everyone had to be cut down to replace.once you get it down you will have to replace the tire hoist, you can get this at the dealer.I know this sounds crazy but this all that seems to work.post back with any other questions.

Hi, thanks. The cable did come down, but the secondary latch does not release, that seems to be the problem, do I still need to cut the cable? Thanks.

yes you still need to cut the cable because the tire will not go back up.replaceing the tire hoist is not the hard it's a DIY job.post back with what you find.
