2003 Chevy Tahoe Hub Assembly Removal

Hi,

I'm replacing the front hub assembly, rotors and brakes on my 2003 Chevy Tahoe (4x4).

I've removed the brakes, rotor, the 36mm axle nut and the 3 bolts that hold the hub assembly from the back.

I gently tapped the axle and it's free. However, the hub won't come loose. From what I can tell, it's a press fit and should pop out. I tried hitting it with a hammer from the back, but it doesn't want to move. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the old hub assembly free?

Hello, you may need a puller. Usually the puller mounts to the lug studs, takes two or three lug nuts to hold it on. The puller may have a stud that screws down onto the shaft-end that sticks out past the hub.

I haven't done this on your vehicle, but, I have done it on others, trying to get the shaft loose from the hub.

I used a chain mounted to the lug studs, tried to keep the chain centered over the shaft, then used a small scissor jack between the chain and the shaft. It came loose easy, but, It's always best to use the proper tools for the job at hand.
