Any special tools needed to make this job easier? Other than compressor, what other parts need to be replaced? And- Are the instructional manuals offered on this site intended to be detail enough to help an ametuer?

Ok what I would do is have the old freon recovered by a shop then go ahead and take it home to replace the compressor if you do that replace the accumulator too. Then you should take it to a shop and have it e-vaced and then put in the freon.

I just got mine checked out last Friday and was told I needed a new compressor. The technician said that the dryer vent had to be replaced too. This piece cost like $30 - $40 off Amazon
