2001 Chevy Tahoe 2001 Tahoe transmission issues

I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. Recently, it has been very hard to get it to go into reverse. When it does, it makes a loud clunking noise. The next issue I am having with the transmission is now it's leaking (very slightly), and also it is beginning to slip on occasion. It also sometimes fails to down shift into 1st gear when I have come to a complete stop. It's like it "forgot" or something. When i go to take off again, it acts as if it is in neutral, and then makes a loud clunk when it drops back into gear.

Can anyone tell me if this sounds like something that can be fixed relatively inexpensively, or if this sounds like it is going to need a rebuild???? I have been doing some reading with respect to same, and have heard that the issue with it not down shifting into 1st could possibly be a computer software problem???

Can anyone please let me know if other people have the same problems, and what they had to do to fix them?

First make sure your ignition timing is correct. You must have a dealer or mechanic with the proper scan tool to check the timing. The old days of checking the ignition timing with a timing light are gone. Yes it can be the computer, but make sure that the tranny fluid is at the proper level and check it for a burnt smell. It also should be pink in color. If all is well with the fluid try having the computer flashed ( or re-programmed).
