What type of catalytic converter goes into a 1999 chevy tahoe? And where can you find one that doesn't cost an arm and two legs?

Hello,
Well the is only one kind of cat. The only difference in them is size and length.
Now if you are getting a quote from a garage then you are going to paid out the @$#! For it, but then again some people think $180 is an arm and a leg.
If you feel you can do the work then you should be able to find one for about $180.
Why are you needing a cat?

I need a catalytic converter so I can pass an emission test and get my register completed. By the way do you know any one in Stockbridge Georgia who would be able to do this job for me without mortgaging my house?

Sorry sure don't.
If I may suggest, there is a product and unfortunately I cannot remember the name or who makes it. But it an additive to the fuel and it guarantees you pass the emmisions test. If I think of it or happen to see it I will post it here in the forum.

Thank you.I do appreciate that.I am currently out of work and anywhere I can save money is a real plus in my book right now. Not having to spend hundreds of dollars on this repair would lighten my load greatly. If you think of the product, please let me know soon.I have one more week before my registration is due. Again thanks of the advice. And my boyfriend thought this forum was a waste of time.
