1999 Chevy Tahoe 0306 code

1999 chevy tahoe 350 CI with 125K miles set a code 0306 misfire in cylinder 6. Changed plugs. Wires, cap rotor no help. Then changed the injector for #6 cylinder - still no help. Only appears to set code in the first 5 minutes of operation when cold. I can drive it after that for 50 miles - no code. Shut down for 3 hours and restart - code back in couple of minutes. I also have a very noticable but short lived ( 30 seconds) lifter noise (intermitent, doesnt always occur) only at start up. Should I go ahead and pull head looking for valve problem.

No. Its not a valve problem but a lower intake manifold gasket problem. Replace the lower intake gaskets and then your problem will be gone. Very common. And I bet the lifter noise your hearing is not a lifter noise but a exhasut leak at the exhasut donut gasket but it sounds exactly like a lifter. Let me know how you make out
