I have a 1997 tahoe with a rebuilt 5.7 vortech engine with approx. 3500 miles on it, the car itself has 185,000 miles. today i went to start it up and the key will not turn. the gear shifter wont budge. i am able to turn the ky back into aux mode, but only slightly forward, when i did the gear indicator was reading 1st gear, and the car could be pushed as if in nuetral. i manually shifted he transmission back to park, but still cant get key to turn, nor the gear shifter to budge

Check the brake switch and the shift interlock control system-could be the shiftlock control solenoid.
