I took my tahoe in the shop for a diag test it came up with a P1870 which they said they are not a transmission shop just what does this code mean. The car drives fine till you get to a hill like mountain and it slipped about 2 times. The mechanic said the oil smelled burnt.

DTC p1870 indicates slipping of a transmission component.

There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) for this issue. This problem is usually caused on this particular vehicle by incorrect wiring to the VCM. Contact your local GM dealer to inquire about TSB #66-71-04. You will need to purchase the new wiring kit and have it installed. Part number should be 12167310
