Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy Tahoe V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 160k miles

Truck run good, except when i let off the gas it makes a whoo whoo whoo sound for a couple of seconds then it levels off and drives good, i mash on the gas it takes off like a rocket, but when i let off the gas it does that little sputter for a few seconds then everything is fine, I'm thinking egr valve, but i just don't know, i checked for vacume leakes, can't find any, new intake gaskets, distributor cap & rotor, plugs & wires, valve cover gaskets, i assume the timing is correct or it wouldn't idel and run as good as it does. i brought the #1 piston up before i started the intake gasket job, it fired right up after the job was done no problem. it dosen't sputter like that when i rev it up with the transmission in park.

Does this tahoe have a vortec 5.7 (350) engine? What type of fuel injection does it have? Do not change any sensors until you test them. Doing so will lead you down the wrong path and cost you more money. What brand of plugs-wires-cap and rotor does it have? What was the condition of the distributer gear when you removed it? The fact that it runs good does not mean that the timing is perfect. The timing must be checked by a computer scanner. A timing light will not set or check the timing because the timing is advanced and set by the computer. This usually means a $50 trip to the dealer.

Thanks for the response, it's a 95 5.7L engine with throttle body injection, i dont think it's a vortek, i bought all the parts from auto zone which may be the main problem but they had prices that i could afford, so you think that the timing may be off a little? It could very well be, i didn't use a timing lite, i just made sure, at least i thouht, that the rotor was in the same position as before i removed the distributor then i replaced it with a new one.I just bought the tahoe about a month ago, it had the sputter when i bought it but i thought a complete tune up would solve the problem but it didn't (I'm affraid that the dealer is going to charge me some highly inflated price(which i can't afford) to get to the bottom of the problem. but i guess that's probably the best rout at this point.I just hope it's nothing major, thanks again!

Test the throttle position sensor for proper voltage rise and fall. If the TPS is bad it will dump fuel in when it's not suppose to. There is nothing wrong with Autozone parts, HOWEVER, The only ignition parts that will work on your engine are A/C Delco brand -- especially the spark plugs and plug wires..How many bolts hold on the lower intake manifold?
