egr valve

1989 chevy suburban, 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive, 7.4 engine w/throttle body fuel injection, gas.
I have rebuilt the block and heads. The intake manifold is cracked and needs replacing. This vehicle originated from CA. but now resides in TX. I want to know what my options are concerning the replacement/removal of the egr valve system, regaurdless of the street legality. If I were to remove this system and install a non egr intake manifold, what effect will it have on the performance of the engine and/or will it work. Will any eloctronics have to be changed? :D

The EGR is part of the emissions system. Removal or modification outside of manufacturers specs as far as I've researched, would be considered tampering. It is federal mandate, no matter what state the car is in. although the catalyst may confirm to non-California emission standards of the state that registration is licensed in.
However, I have performed catalyst and emission component removal with a waiver from the DOT. But this usually is for vehicles to be exported outside of the U.S. where leaded fuel is used.
