2007 Chevy Suburban change brakes and rotor

application note on autozone website said that spindal nut must be replaced when replacing brake pads and rotor why is this necessary can i go ahead and change the pads and rotor without changing the nut?

change the nut because if you dont it wont lock again and it can fall off. its cheap anyways
