if its inaccurate than one or more of the teeth may have broken on the little gear in the tranny that runs the sensor

Most often a speedometer problem in an 03-06 GM is caused by failing gauge motors inside the instrument cluster, it's a very common problem.

Your suburban instrument cluster can be rebuilt by a speedometer specialist.
Other than having it rebuilt you could take it to the dealer but the average price for replacement at the dealership is $500-700.
