This is my girlfriends rig its a half ton with the small block v8. (5.3), so here's what she told me:

When the fuel gauge gets around a quarter of a tank, the thing wont start. This happens only occasionally. The thing that makes no sense to me is that she said there is this box looking thing under the rig and she needs to tap on that to try and get it to work. Her friend owns a small garage and told her that this box is the fuel pump. That makes no sense.

However I know the thing should have an in-tank pump. Is that what needs to be replaced with this problem? I dont know if there are any sensors or anything that I should replace first.
It just seems wierd to me.

What in the hell would this box be? I'm at a loss on this part. I'm more of an old school chevy guy, this new stuff has to much electrical and emissions stuff for me.

We had the same problem and there is a recall on the Cluster from GM. We got that replaced at no charge and the problem went away. Ours would not start at 1/4 tank until we put some fuel in it and it ran fine. Try getting the recall on the cluster fixed.
