2002 Chevy Suburban '02 Suburban - trouble making sharp tur

I've just noticed that my vehicle makes struggling noises while in 2wd and has trouble making sharp turns (pulling in and out of parking spaces mainly). The truck then jerks as it proceeds in the direction I want it to go.
What is causing this problem? How do I fix it?
