Howdy,
I keep experiencing a loss of power when the engine heats up. Sometime in the morning I can drive 20 miles to work and never miss a beat. While other times after a while the rpms will drop and I can't hardly drive over 25 MPH. A lot of times it is very noticeable on a hot day even upon start up. Other times it takes a while to get hot and begin messing up. The fuel pump was just replaced to try to fix the problem. There is a whining noise coming from the fuel pump area, however most seem to think it is the catilytic converter. I was hoping you might could share with me a possible sollution to my problem. I have been attempting to take apart the converter, but It seems like a lot of work, expecially if that is not the problem.

(note: after the fuel pump was replaced it did work for a while, (1-2 weeks) but then began again. The fuel filter was also replaced to attempt correcting)
thanks,

S. Lockett

I have had the same problem and got a 39$ fule presure gage at autozone to see if the problem is fuel presure. It was and after repacing an O2 sensor as the check engine error code said, I changed the fule pump again because the pressure was only 45 psi and should be 60-66 psi.
I would find out what your fuel pressure is. Hope this helps

I had the same problem but I have it fixed now. I found that the car would not accelerate to more than 35 mph, took it to the dealership and they could not fix it, after two days with them I had it towed to another mechanic friend and he told me that the problem was not with the throttle control but with the catalytic converter. Replaced the catalytic converter and the problem went away. And the power has been back. The mechanic also told me that I need to get a tune-up on the engine and flush the gas system to prevent the new catalytic converter from clogging. Did all he suggested and after 2000 miles not only is the power still there but I'm getting around 19 - 20 mpg on the highway, the vehicle runs like new again. Hope this helps you as it did me.
