I have a 2000 suburban 5.3 litre, 4 wheel drive, 115,000 miles. The problem I am having is that the service 4 wheel drive light comes on after driving for any time over 15 minutes. I thought is may just need the 4 wheel drive exercised because we do not engage it during the summer. But during the winter we use it quite often and have never had the light come one. This happened a couple times last summer and after exercising the 4-wheel drive it went away. This year I have exercised it a couple times but the light still comes on. Any suggestions.

Have you had the codes scaned? I would like to know what code was stored in the module. And it will make it easier to help you figure out the best Possibility for what is causing your light to come on.

As it turn out I took this in to get the codes scanned and they told me it was probably the sensor which is about a $400.00 item. Being cheap as I am I decided to investigate and to make a very long story short it was the dashboard switch which is $70.00.
