Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Chevy Suburban 6.5L Four Wheel Drive Automatic 185000 miles

turbocharger not working. Accessory vacuum pump making "louder" knocking noise, and new knocking noise appears to have developed just behind turbocharger. Any common suggestions? Vacuum pump always starts to knock and must be replaced. Might be unrelated to Turbo?

If you are not getting any boost, the wastegate must be completely open. This is probably mechanical (wastegate stuck open due to soot).

As long as turbo in not blowing blue smoke, the turbo itself should be OK.
