5.7L 1999 Chevy Suburban with 155,000 miles. Power steering works fines when the fluid level stays full but the problem is I have to add new fluid at least once a week. There is an obvious leak as evident by the large spot in the driveway and all of the fluid under the hood. I have used the "stop leak" fluid to no avail. It is obvious something has to be replaced whether it is the actual pump or rubber gaskets inside the pump. Can a power steering unit be re-built or do you have to replace the entire thing? I'm talking about getting it rebuilt or replacing... am I even on the mark?

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi
If pump is leaking it is cost effective to replace unit over having it rebuilt. Have you ruled out High pressure hose? fill start have helper rotate wheel lock to lock fluid shoot out hose?
Hope this helps
Thanks for donate

If it were the high pressure hose leaking would it only be when the wheel is turned lock to lock? This leak is apparently ALL the time, not just some times. Thanks for your time! And if I'm going to rule out rebuilding it then am I correct in purchasing a pump to solve the problem or should I look for something else also?

No pressure hose will leak with engine running @700psi in hose. Being that you can see the vehicle where is leak coming from?
