Hi! Just acquired a 99 Suburban. After a pretty nasty overheat, I had the radiator and thermostat replaced. Drove very cool for around two hours on the highway. Then all of a sudden, the thermo started creepin up again. It would heat, then cool, and then occasionally reset back to normal. That only lasted for a while though, now its running as hot as possible before common sense says to pull over. Any suggestions or things to look out for would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Steve

You might want to have the guys who put the radiator in it, pressure test the system for leaks, do you smell anything unusual?

Hi Merlin,
Thanks for getting back. Unfortunately, I'm on a Xcountry trip. So the guy who fixed it isn't accessible. I don't smell anything outside of coolant. It seems like the reserve tank is hoarding all of the coolant, exspelling what it can't hold, and letting nothing into the radiator. Any chance the guy put the thermostat on backwards?

It's possible, but usually the thing wont fit in the wrong way, if you want to check it remove the hoyusing and make sure the spring end is to the block, also check the radiator cap, it may be weak, not holding the correct pressure.
