My 99 suburban with only 54,000 miles lifters just started clattering. Isn't there an additive to keep them pumped when not in use. So far they quit making noise after a few minutes.

Hi there,

What you will need to do is give the engine a oil change with a good quality engine flush, change the filter as well, there are some products on the market that claim to free up noisy lifters, you can give this a try as they just may need a good clean out.
