1998 Chevy Suburban check engine light

I was wanting to know what would cause the check engine light to come on? I checked water, gas cap, and oil. I t was kind of strange it just came on all of a sudden. Thank you for your time and help

Hi there,

The check light is an indication the the ECU has logged a systems fault in the engine management system, you will have to get the code read with a scanner, this code will tell the tech which system is acting up and help shorten the diagnostic process,
