When put into 4 hi it will go for about a mile and then the sevice 4wd light comes on and it will not come out of 4 hi unless I turn the vehicle off. If put into 4 auto it will go for about a mile then it will go into nuteral and won't go into 2 hi or 4 hi until I turn the vehicle off for a minute or two.

Have you scanned the computer? Also, have you checked to see if there is power to the actuator on the transfer case.

Let me know what you find.
