clunks from rearend when you take off from a stop.

Are you hearing the ping in the drive shaft or just the clunck? if just the clunck then it would be gear mesh slop in the ring and pinion. If the nose bearing on the input shaft is bad then you would get this slop because it would allow the pinion to push forward and/ot just ware and tear on the teeth between the ring and pinion either way it would need to be rebuilt.
