1994 Chevy Suburban Transfer Case grind on ecelleration

When you start from a dead stop the transfer case will grind unless you just bearly add throttle. This only happens in 2WD. If you place it in 4WD it will not grind. Once you take off in 4WD and shift it into 2WD it will not grind again until you come to a complete stop.


Any advise on where to start is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like its not fully disengaging.

Is it a mechanical shift or automatic shift for the four wheel?

Sorry I should have included this:

It's a manual transfercase in that you have to pull the stick.

Check to make sure that the linkage is tight and that the shift guide and gates are not miss-adjusted causing a partial 2x2-4x4 shift

Turned out to be a bad gear and synchro in the transfer case. SOrry I dont rememer what they charged to fix it.
