My steering seems to have excessive play, like 6 inches each way while going straight down the road. Mechanics have adjusted the steering gearbox, and say all the idler arm's look fine, what could it be? Thanks.

If all steering components are tight and in good condition, chances are the steering gear needs replaced even though your mechanic tried to adjust it.
