while driving one night I heard this horrific noise I thought the the car was going to fall apart. I looked under the car to see if anything had come apart but nothing was noticed . I did hear that the noise was coming from the differential, or maybe the rear wheels It sound as if the park and drive was ingaged at the same time. the noise could be hard for blocks

Have you raised the rear of the vehicle to determine if the sound is coming from the rear? Have you removed the differential cover?
