I have a 2003 Silverado that had the same issue. Mine only did it at highway speeds, not in town. Tried having someone else drive while I rolled down the window, feeling around to see if I could get it to stop. No luck, could not hear it with the window down. After further inspection, I found that the black vent shroud at the bottom of the windshield (shroud that your radio antennae goes through) was riding the windshield at high speeds. Not enough wind speed in town to get it to hit the windshield. Took a file and blended the corner off of the shroud, enough clearance to not hit going down the highway. Problem solved, no more sand hitting the windshield noise. Hope this helps.

I've had the windsheid poping noise myself, and others on different fourms had too. The molding on the windshield was vibraiting(a-pillar molding) some used clear RTV under it to hold it down, I used black.
