Hi, need help locating the problem causing the tail and dash lights to be out. Also out is the chime when the headlights are left on when car is shut off. All other lights are working fine. I have checked fuses/ bulbs, connections , and looked for breaks in wires, no luck yet. Could this be a bad switch or maybe cluster panel???

What to check next

Diagnostic guidance. Suggested checks and possible repairs are separate from the owner's reported results.

Have the shared feeds, grounds and lamp circuits traced with the correct diagram and measurements during the fault. Verify the exterior lighting before use in conditions requiring it.

replaced the switch, no luck. What else might cause the 2 lights to go out at the same time? Everything else seems to be working ok. The one thing I did not look at was the bulb in the dashboard. Would that cause the tail lights to go out as well? My sister in law has a 96 Monte Carlo, and she developed the same problem the other day.

Discussion summary

Tail/dash lifgts on 97 Chevy Silverado 4x4

A 1997 Silverado lost its tail and dashboard lights and its lights-on chime. The owner checked fuses, bulbs and wiring, then replaced the headlight switch without improvement.

Reported outcome: The switch replacement did not resolve the complaint; no later repair was reported.

The checks lacked measured results. A dashboard bulb or cluster failure was not established as the cause.
