Ignition and it locked in the 'a' position?

I own a 2007 chevy silverado lt1 ext cab 4wd 4.8 v8 w/ 215 miles I bought 1 week ago. I put the key in the ignition and it locked in the 'a' position and would not allow me to turn it at all. The remote start will work once then not work at all. Once on the key still does not turn. None of the dash components light up or function. Do I own a lemon that will haunt me even after repair, or is it correctable?

Yep, the ignition lock has fallen apart internally which is common, here is how th change the key lock out, I would get the replacement from the dealer so they can code the lock for you before installation. Here is how to change the lock for the key out. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
