I have a 99 silverado 1500 4x4, 5.3 liter, 23 gallon ( I think) and my fuel pump is bad. Whats the difference between TCU and TCF pumps? Can I look up my VIN and see which one I have or another method? I dont want to pull the pump and have purchased the wrong one. The truck was bought new from a dealer in CA, so it might have extra emission stuff on the vehicle.

i had to replace my fuel pump on my 00 silverado. what you will have to do is take your old fuel pump out and there is a tag that will tell you which pump you need. One pump is for flex fuel and the other is for regular applications

If it's a California truck it conforms to California emissions. Cant be sold there unless it does. As such it will have EVAP and use the TCF pump.
The TCF includes the tank pressure sensor which is needed for the EVAP tests.
The TCU does not have the pressure sensor for EVAP.
The TCF pump can be used in either application, you just don't connect the sensor.

An easy way to verify that is to use a mirror to look at the pump. If it has one wiring connector on top it is a TCU if it has 2 wiring connectors it is a TCF.

What is the issue with your pump? It sounds like you are still driving it which isn't normal for a bad pump. Usually they either work or don't.
