Have a 2008 Silverado 4.3. Two days ago got message "engine hot a/c turned off". Checked antifreeze, red stuff 2/3 full in overflow bottle. Engine did not appear hot. Fans were running constantly while truck was running. Temp gauge on dash was still showing 160.
Next morning, came on again when I started cold engine, almost frost conditions.
Today got check engine light, code P0128, but message disappeared and fans were not running.
Engine still did not seem hot. What's up?

You may have a problem with a temp sensor. You're going to need a scan tool to look at all the sensor values.

Thanks, I thought the same. Engine just shows no signs of getting hot. When the engine light is on or message center sends the "hot engine" reading, the temp guage is at the bottom, 160. When I have no indicators during highway use it's consistantly at about 210.

The computer uses a different sensor than the gauge does.

That complicates things. I'll have it looked at today.
