2005 Chevy Silverado oil pressure gage

oil gage goes to max on gage when i purchased trk it would go to40 and know max i was told it was abad oil pressure gage to abab dash gage which is the correct problem.

It could be the gauge, but before tearing into the inst. panel, I would recommend trying to replace the oil sending unit. It is what tells the gauge how much pressure there is.
