2005 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

idles about 500rpm but drops to 300rpm or dies when put in gear (drive-reverse) can the idle speed be adjusted?

well not really, your idle is adjusted by the computer, through the idle air control valve, however, you may want to clean out your throttle body and throttleplate, along with the bore and pintle of the IAC.
