My 2005 Silverado 5.3L developed a lifter noise several months ago. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed all lifters being collapsed. The truck has run fine until this morning. The noise has reappeared momentarily after starting. My concern is the collapsed lifters are just a symptom and not the cause. Any ideas?

A lifter pumps up with oil. Of it doesn't pump up, there will be a tapping sound.

Now I have to ask, does it only make noise when you first start the engine?

Let me know.
