Occasionally the gas gauge on my 2005 Silverado truck reads as much as twice the amount that is actually in the tank. It only corrects itself during start-up, but correct readings do not occur with any particular start-up. Then later with another start-up it begins the false read again. When it reads wrong its always reading way more than in the tank.

I’ve checked all the connectors at the tank for cleanliness and tightness and still have this occasional problem – any hints for a fix are appreciated.

Thanks Mike S

most likely you have a bad fuel level sensor located in the gas tank.
