Suspension problem
2005 Chevy Silverado Engine Size unknown Four Wheel Drive Automatic 98000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2005 chevrolet sileverado duramax 4x4. I have an annoying clunking noise in front end. It is only noticable when hitting larger bumps(if you will). I have had it to the chevy dealer 3 times and they cannot find the problem. I picked up today (again) and they put a new steering shaft rod in it thinking that was the problem. Wrong! I exited the dealership and when I turned to leave hitting a bump the clunk was still there ($150.00 later). I am thinking shock or strut. The alignment is fine and so is tire wear. Any suggestions were to start looking?

Will it do it if you hit just one wheel on a bump? start by checking the sway bar bushings and shock bushings. Does it only do this if the wheel is turned?

I have seen many of the upper shock bushings wear through and cause a clunk noise.
