2003 Chevy Silverado Starter stays engaged

Every once in a while, becomming more frequent, when I engage the starter the engine startss and the starter stays engaged when I let off the key. If that happens I shut the engine off and try again. The starter always disengages the second time.

replace the ignition switch. the electrical part in the column, not the key cylinder
