Today while I was driving with the air conditioner turned on, hot air started coming out of 2 vents while cool air was still coming from the other vents in the cab of the truck.

For several weeks, there has been a clicking sound (somewhat like a clock ticking) from the area behind the dash which was not a normal sound. Of course when the hot air started coming out of the vents on front of both sides of the driver's seat, there was no more ticking sound.

What broke?

The clicking was probably the air diverter valve motor. They start clicking when they fail. The valve controls heat/cooling air flow. It can also be a bear to change on some models.
