2002 Chevy Silverado 4wheel drive issuse

I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and I am havin problems with the 4wheel drive. When i put the truck into 4 hi or 4 low it wont stay in. I have noticed this issue while 4wheeling i wasn't able to pull a 1/2 ton chevy out cuz the 4wheel drive kept disengaging.
