2001 Siverado had a knock in it that quit after warming up. Ran rough - like it was missing out. Day later oil pressure gauge pegs, runs even rougher, stalling at idle. Let sit for 3 hrs/go to start. Knock is worse. Oil shoots out of bottom of truck. Gauge reads low oil level. Trun off immediately. Mechanic looks at it and finds the gasket is sticking out of the side of the oil filter. Owner of the place I got the oil changed comes out with a new filter and oil. His mechanic says its a bad filter. He says it will be a fight with Quaker State. He then calls me and tells me (after talking with two guys who havent seen the truck) that it is a pressure relief valve problem and had nothing to do with the oil filter. Feel like I'm getting played. Any thoughts?

More than likely the gasket off the old filter stuck to the adaptor and the new oil filter was installed double gasketed. The engine knock is of concern. I would remove the existing filter and cut it open to see if there are any metal shavings in the bottom of the filter can.
