I have a company vehicle (described above)- my employees have complained that while driving this truck it's making noise and it kind of lunges forward when decelerating. They also said that it is idling at a high rate (approx. 30 rpm's while stopped). I think it sounds like the timing belt/ chain. Plan to have it evaluated. However, one issue that has come up is they said they are not getting as good gas mileage (went from getting 14-15 mpg to approx. 10.5 mpg) since this anomaly began. Is it possible (as they maintain) that this above mentioned problem has affected the gas mileage??

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked the idle air control valve or throttle position sensor? Can you describe the noise it is making?
