2000 Chevy Silverado head gasket

we was told that we have the right side head gasket needs changed and if you do 1 you do both while its torn apart. is there anyway of knowing if the head is cracked before we tare apart and what do you do if the head is cracked?

Yes, you should replace both at the same time. As far as knowing if it is cracked, you need to have it off first.
