My 2000 chevrolet Silverado pickup truck lifters has clattered some since new. Over years they have got louder. I use castrol 10w30 oil. I have since changed to 10w40. When I crank it, oil pressure is real good. After about 30 seconds it starts to clatter. Then it gets louder over about a 1/12 minutes. Then it subsides and goes away.

Is the noise heard under acceleration or heavy load?

Let me know.

It sounds like lifter noise. I just looked up the recommended oil weight, and it is what I thought, 5W30. 5W30 is lighter at cold start to help circulate the oil faster. That is what is recommended. I don't know the temps you live in, but if they are cool or cold, that could be the problem.
